Cardiac Imaging at the Heart Hospital, London
Director: Dr James Moon
We offer 3 and 6 month fellowships to learn hands-on training in CMR and interpretation in clinical context. A particular focus is on imaging cardiomyopathy (600 cardiomyopathy scans per year currently). Training (hands-on Siemens based, lecture based) is sufficient to obtain level 2 accreditation within 3 months. We specificalyl expect trainees to become very good at running the scanners, but the focus is broad on scanning, interpretation, and service delivery (eg setting up a department). There are additional opportunities and formal links for interested individuals to attend sessions in CMR in adult congenital heart disease at Great Ormond Street, cardiomyopathy clinics/multidisciplinary meetings at the Heart Hospital, and on a Philips scanner (London Chest Hospital). See the heart hospital Imaging centre website. www.thhic.com.

Description: This program is intended for cardiologists and radiologists wishing to gain basic or in depth CMR knowledge Teaching is done on 'one to one' basis enabling excellent supervision and guidance.
Setting: high throughput (about 60 cases/week) clinical CMR service with indications covering a wide range of clinical settings.We provide two types of courses:
1. Fellowships: 1 week, 1 month or 3 months, the later 2 courses should
enable the fellow obtaining level 1 and levels 2 CMR competency
(ACC/CMR) respectively. The program comprises
* Hands on experience
* Case interpretation from daily practice as well as from a
well-prepared extensive teaching file of cases with frequent correlation
to other imaging modalities.
* Didactic course of CMR lectures following the ACC/SCMR curriculum2. CMR modules : these 1 week modules are intended for fellows with
previous knowledge in CMR who wish to gain a focused insight or to
refresh their experience in one or more areas of CMR :
* CMR of myocardial ischemia.
* Viability assessment.
* Cardiomyopathies and myocarditis.
* CMR assessment of valves and flow.
The centre has acquired a cutting edge dual source CT for
coronary imaging in 2008 (about 16 cases/week) and a state of the art 3T Skyra will be installed in January 2012. Special arrangements can be made to accommodate a combined CMR/CTA fellowship.

Description: This course is designed for cardiologists, radiologists, or other physicians, wishing to obtain in-depth knowledge of and experience in the principles of cardiac MRI, its practical implementation in a clinical environment, and reading and interpretation of Cardiovascular MR images. This course is offered as an extended fellowship — typically 3 months. The number of participants is limited. Practical experience is acquired by participating in all CMR scans on our Philips Achieva 1.5T and 3T scanners , Release 2 with the full cardiovascular package, plus some research and pre-release capabilities. While much didactic experience is gained through miscellaneous lectures, the fellowship is offered in conjunction with a Biomedical Engineering course through Washington University ("Cardiovascular MRI — From Physics to Clinical Application" 502 BME).Cardiovascular MR/CT Center
