The Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, an international, non-profit, professional association, is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to provide strategic leadership and direction during a period of growth. The successful candidate should have an outstanding track record demonstrating leadership in the field of medical imaging or cardiovascular medicine; this experience is required to understand the issues faced by the Society, to facilitate interaction with the SCMR Board of Trustees and Committee Chairs, and to develop and implement effective action plans.  Excellent communication skills are required to serve as an effective liaison with other professional organizations, government agencies, and the medical imaging industry. Likewise, strong managerial skills are required to efficiently direct the management group and consultants contracted by the SCMR to manage its operations and activities.

OVERVIEW

The SCMR relies on the active, volunteer participation of its members through its Board and Committee structure to achieve the goals outlined in the Mission Statement above. The CEO is expected to work closely with the Board to define strategic directions, and with the Committee Chairs to devise and implement effective plans and activities designed to achieve these goals.  The CEO is also expected to establish strategic alliances with other organizations, foster relationships with corporate sponsors, and to direct the management of operations.

Three of the most important activities of the SCMR are the Annual Scientific Sessions, the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (www.jcmr-online.com), and the Society’s webpage (www.scmr.org). While the CEO will play a role in the overseeing these critical programs, the position will focus more on developing new initiatives designed to advance the field and to maintain the fiscal health of the Society, including:

  • Developing a plan to sustain the SCMR Registry
  • Expanding corporate sponsorship opportunities
  • Growing the recently launched Corporate Advisory Board
  • Developing strategies to overcome the obstacles to broader appropriate utilization of CMR in the USA and around the world
  • Launching the credentialing exam and associated prep courses
  • Expanding web-based education
  • Growing the Research and Education Fund to solicit philanthropic donations
  • Expanding international outreach activities

The successful candidate will excel in communication and service to SCMR members and stakeholders; be successful working with sponsors, funding organizations, and contributors; and be well informed regarding the multiple issues facing the Society and the field of CMR.  The CEO will be expected to manage board governance issues and to support the activities of all of the Society’s many Committees and working groups. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report directly to the SCMR Board of Trustees
  • Manage the business activities of the SCMR
  • Work closely with the Board to set realistic goals for the Society, and take the initiative to work with Committee Chairs and members to achieve these goals
  • Work closely with the Chief Operations Officer to ensure that the management group is working effectively to meet the Society’s goals and continuously identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Coordinate services provided by the contracted management group and outside consultants as per the needs of the SCMR (ex. journal, advocacy)
  • Manage meetings and projects to ensure targets, deadlines and financial goals are met
  • Maintain effective working relationships with Executive Officers, Board of Trustees, Committee Chairs, international membership, industry sponsors, related organizations, and all internal and external parties associated with the Society
  • Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to prepare and manage budgets and verify monthly financial reports
  • Review action items with Committee Chairs on a regular basis

SPECIALIZED SKILLS

  • Track record demonstrating leadership and strategic direction in medical imaging or cardiovascular medicine
  • Effective written and verbal communications and the ability to communicate well inside and outside the organization
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with diverse personalities
  • Strong understanding of finances

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive leadership experience in medical imaging, cardiovascular medical industry, clinical practice, or research and development
  • Ability to act independently and proactively to develop innovative solutions and approaches to problems, and to effectively manage crisis situations

Commensurate with experience
