Prof. Tim Leiner is a cardiovascular radiologist and Professor of Radiology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, United States. He received his M.D. in 2000 from Maastricht University Medical School. In 2002 he obtained his Ph.D. from the same University. Following his Ph.D., he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Cardiac MR Center at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School in Boston under Dr. Warren Manning. He then completed his Radiology residency at Maastricht University Medical Center in The Netherlands and subsequently served as an attending radiologist and Chair of Cardiovascular imaging at Utrecht University Medical Center before relocating to Mayo Clinic in 2021.

His research interests center around the development and implementation of new cardiovascular MR techniques, including artificial intelligence methods. Dr. Leiner has been at forefront of introducing new cardiovascular imaging techniques in the clinic for over two decades. His research is funded by the Dutch Research Council, Netherlands Heart Foundation, and, more recently, the NIH. He is the author of over 450 peer-reviewed publications, review articles and book chapters as well as editor of several electronic radiology textbooks and a frequently invited speaker on cardiovascular imaging and artificial intelligence, having given over 150 invited lectures.

Dr. Leiner has served on the Board of Trustees of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) from 2016-2019 and holds senior fellowships from the SCMR and the ISMRM. He is a past president of the ISMRM and the current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (JCMR). Dr. Leiner particularly enjoys mentoring and has trained numerous residents, fellows, and PhD students.

Dr. Leiner has served as faculty member and member of the organizing committees at the annual meetings of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), European Society for Cardiovascular Radiology (ESCR), International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB). He chaired the Scientific Program Committee of the ESMRMB in 2017.
