The Radiology Department opened in March 2006 and is a shared radiology service providing diagnostic imaging for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital. As part of radiology, LHCH has a CMR site, working closely with various multi-disciplinary teams to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients with a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. The site is staffed by accredited and experienced Consultant Radiologists and Cardiologists, Radiographers, RDAs, Operational, Administrative, PACS and other staff groups. and has two Siemens MRI scanners (1.5T and 3T), supported by specialist post-processing softwares, including AI integration.
CMR studies performed include an array of assessments for cardiac (including stress and adult congenital heart disease) and vascular confitions. The unit holds advanced European Society Cardiac MRI accreditation from the European Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI).
The centre is a recognised cardiothoracic imaging training site in the Health Education England North West School of Radiology Training Scheme with regular placements of specialty registrars from the North West of England as well as North Wales.
