SCMR Introduces New CEO

On behalf of the CEO Search Committee, we are very pleased to announce that Dr. Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci MD, PhD, FESC, FRCP, will join SCMR as our new Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Bucciarelli-Ducci is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in Cardiology/Non-Invasive Imaging at the Bristol Heart Institute, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK, and Co-Director of the Clinical Research and Imaging Centre Bristol. She is widely recognized as a leader, a celebrated speaker, and a distinguished author in the field of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).

Since becoming an SCMR member in 2006, Dr. Bucciarelli-Ducci has devoted herself to many aspects of the Society. As Case of the Week editor from 2009 to 2013, she established a prize, Best Case of the Week, at the annual SCMR meeting, a feature still present today. From 2011 to 2014, she was the Co-Editor of the SCMR Newsletter, and from 2011 to 2013, she served on the Public Relations Committee. In 2013, she was a founding member of the Women in CMR Working Group of SCMR. More recently, she was one of the two Presidents (EACVI/ESC representative) of CMR 2018, the latest and largest joint EuroCMR and SCMR meeting.

Dr. Bucciarelli-Ducci has also excelled as a leader in other professional medical societies. She served as the Vice-Chair (2014-2016) then Chair (2016-2018) of the CMR section of European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and as a Vice-President of EACVI (2016-2018). During her tenure, the EuroCMR meeting attendance and the EACVI CMR section membership grew dramatically, and she established CMR Level I courses and the ESC CMR Exam Prep Course.

Dr. Bucciarelli-Ducci is a passionate advocate for CMR education, training, and clinical care throughout the world. We are confident she will successfully guide SCMR on its mission to improve cardiovascular health by advancing the field of CMR.
