Information for Patients
What is a heart MRI scan? A Heart MRI, also called cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, is a method to image the human heart, and measure how well it functions. A Heart MRI can also visualize and measure blood flow in the heart, aorta and other large vessels.
How long does it take? While on average a Heart MRI scan takes 45 minutes, with modern scanners a Heart MRI scan can be completed in as little as 30 minutes for certain indications. In this way, despite its efficiency, this test can be more comfortable for the patient and comprehensive for the reading physician than many other common cardiovascular tests.
