SCMR-MICCAI Joint Sessions on CMR Reconstruction Challenge

Introduction

The CMRx series challenges aim to establish a benchmark that empowers the research community to accelerate CMR imaging through universal approaches, fostering diverse applications and improved real-world performance. The joint SCMR-MICCAI session will provide a platform for participants to present their findings to clinical and technical experts with hands-on cardiac MRI experience.

This session will also invite clinical experts to discuss unresolved issues in CMR imaging and AI, exploring shared interests between the SCMR and MICCAI communities. Furthermore, it will formally announce the schedule for the CMRxRecon2026 (4D flow) challenge, themed “Towards Clinical Adoption of Ultra-Fast 4D Flow MRI.” This challenge represents a pioneering effort to advance 4D flow MRI reconstruction by benchmarking methods that enhance spatial and temporal fidelity. With the increasing importance of high-quality cardiovascular flow imaging, the challenge includes tasks that assess reconstruction accuracy and efficiency, emphasizing faster inference times and reduced memory usage to bolster clinical and research applications.

Time and Location

To be held at the 29th Annual Scientific Sessions of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), to be held at the Windsor Convention & Expo Center, located on Barra da Tijuca beach in Rio de Janeiro, on February 7, 2026.

Schedule

Organization

Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR)

The SCMR is the recognized global representative and advocate for physicians, scientists, and technologists (membership has grown to over 3,000) who work in the field of CMR, committed to the further development of CMR through education, quality control, research, and training. We expect that the members of SCMR (cardiologists, radiologist, scientists, technologist) will greatly benefit from attending the joint session.

Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention Society (MICCAI Society)

The MICCAI Society was formed as a non-profit corporation on July 29, 2004. It is dedicated to the promotion, preservation and facilitation of research, education and practice in the field of medical image computing and computer assisted medical interventions including biomedical imaging and medical robotics. MICCAI annual meeting typically attracts over 1500 world-leading scientists, engineers, and clinicians from a wide range of disciplines associated with medical imaging and computer-assisted surgery.

Cardiac MRI Reconstruction community (CMRxRecon)

CMRxRecon is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing an open and collaborative platform for the field of CMR imaging. For three consecutive years, CMRxRecon has hosted the CMRx series challenges, covering topics such as CMR image quality control, rapid imaging, and multi-contrast reconstruction. Each year, CMRxRecon releases open datasets and offers specialized evaluations, attracting over 200 teams globally to participate.
