SCMR selects HeartIT as partner to expand the Global SCMR Registry

The SCMR Board of Trustees has approved the recommendation of the Registry Task Force to enter into negotiations with Heart Imaging Technologies (HeartIT) with the goal of establishing a partnership agreement to significantly expand the scope and functionality of the SCMR Registry. This decision culminates a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) process that began in June and involved the review of proposals from six applicant organizations. The RFP and complete details on the review process can be found at

The SCMR Registry is designed to support the mission of the SCMR, “To improve cardiovascular health by advancing the field of CMR”, by:

  • Promoting evidence-based utilization of CMR through a collaborative global effort.
  • Providing a web mechanism for CMR centers to upload de-identified patient data, CMR indications, and images that incorporates state-of-the-art data security and privacy standards.
  • Providing a mechanism of tracking patient outcomes (death, events).
  • Supporting global access to make registry data available to the wider CMR research community.

Under the leadership of Dr. Raymond Kwong, the SCMR Registry has grown to include over 60,000 CMR reports. The Registry has provided the collaborative structure and technology backbone for the recently and successfully completed SPINS trial to investigate 4 year outcomes and cost-effectiveness of stress CMR in over 2,200 patients. The pending agreement with HeartIT is anticipated to take the SCMR Registry to the next level by complete integration of DICOM image data, the development of automated tools for tracking patient outcomes, and the inclusion of many additional CMR centers around the world. These enhancements to the Registry will provide opportunity to demonstrate the impact and effectiveness of CMR on an unprecedented scale. Details regarding site participation and opportunities for SCMR members to develop research projects using Registry data will be forthcoming on
