James Carr, MD, FSCMR

Dr. James Carr is a radiologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the director of Cardiovascular Imaging. His specialties include vascular and interventional radiology, cardiac CT and MRI, and Magnetic Resonance Angiography. James C. Carr, MD, attended The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and was awarded his medical degree in 1992. He served his internship and conducted his residency at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin, Ireland (1999). In addition, he is fellowship trained in interventional radiology and cardiovascular imaging at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine/The McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University (2001). Dr. Carr further received board certification in diagnostic radiology and vascular and interventional radiology from the American Board of Radiology and remains at the forefront of his challenging specialty via memberships and affiliations with prestigious professional societies and associations, such as the Radiological Society of North America, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance, the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, and the Society of Interventional Radiology. He feels that his success is attributable primarily to his hard work and diligence and dedicates his spare time to his excellent training, perseverance, and dedication to his work.



Subha Raman, MD, FSCMR

Dr. Subha Raman is a cardiologist at Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health where she serves as Chief of Cardiology and VP for Cardiovascular Services, advancing high-value CV care across a statewide health system. She has directed and led the development of advanced cardiovascular imaging services including a mission-aligned CMR program that provided the full-spectrum of clinical protocols as well as subspecialty fellowship training in an environment conducive to clinical and translational research. Her clinical, teaching, and research programs focus on earlier, cost-effective diagnosis to deliver improved outcomes for populations with and at-risk of cardiovascular disease.



Sven Plein, MD

Sven Plein, MD, PhD, is a British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiovascular Imaging at the University of Leeds, UK, where he leads the Department of Biomedical Imaging Science. Together with his multidisciplinary research group, he has published over 250 original papers, position papers and review articles in CMR with a focus on ischaemic heart disease and heart failure. Sven also practices as a Consultant Cardiologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and leads a busy clinical CMR service. 

Sven has been active in the field of CMR and has been an SCMR member for almost 20 years. He was a member of the board of Trustees of the SCMR from 2010 – 2013 and programme chair of the 2011 joint SCMR/EuroCMR scientific sessions in Nice. Later he served as Chairman of the Working Group on CMR of the European Society of Cardiology and Vice-president of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging. 

A main focus of Sven’s societal work has been education and training. He has initiated and led the European CMR certification process and the CMR exam, created the CMR pocket guides and a free CMR mobile App, he is editor of several CMR textbooks, most recently the new EACVI Textbook on CMR and has served as a member of the editorial board of JCMR and is Senior Associate Editor of European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging. 

Sven will use his experience in societal leadership and expertise in CMR to strengthen links between CMR experts from all geographical locations, specialties and backgrounds and to further enhance the standing of SCMR in the global imaging market place. 



Karen Ordovas, MD, MAS, FSCMR

Karen G. Ordovas is a radiologist who specializes in cardiac and pulmonary imaging. She has particular expertise in using CT and MRI techniques in cardiovascular imaging. Ordovas earned her medical degree at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.  She completed residencies in radiology in Brazil, followed by a fellowship in radiology at UCSF. She also has a master of advanced study degree in clinical research from UCSF.



Andrew Powell, MD, FSCMR

Dr. Andrew Powell is a Senior Associate in Cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, and Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. He graduated from Harvard Medical School followed by a residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric cardiology, both at Boston Children’s Hospital. Afterward, he joined the staff there in the Department of Cardiology where he is currently the Chief of the Cardiac Imaging Division. His research has focused on the development of quantitative CMR methods to guide therapy and predict outcomes of congenital and pediatric heart disease. For many years Dr. Powell has supported SCMR and its mission to improve cardiovascular health by advancing the field of CMR through education, advocacy, networking, research, and clinical excellence. He is dedicated to fostering inclusion in SCMR and advocating for fair reimbursement practices that allow all patients to have access to CMR.
