SCMR-MICCAI Joint Sessions on CMR Reconstruction Challenge

Introduction

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) has emerged as a crucial imaging technique for diagnosing cardiac diseases, owing to its excellent soft tissue contrast and non-invasive nature. The clinical application of CMR faces various technical challenges, such as slow imaging speed, susceptibility to motion artifacts, and patient discomfort.

The application of AI in CMR has become widespread, and its potential in imaging is substantial. It is well known that AI-based algorithms often require a large number of high-quality training samples. However, the field of CMR imaging lacks publicly available, standardized, and high-quality datasets for the development and evaluation of AI-based CMR imaging algorithms.

The CMRx series challenges are part of the International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI), which has been held for three consecutive years, providing over 600 raw data sets of multi-contrast cardiac MRIs and attracting participation from over 300 teams worldwide.

The joint SCMR-MICCAI sessions at SCMR 2025 will offer the opportunity for participants to present their findings to clinical and technical experts with real-world experience in cardiac MRI. During the sessions, clinical experts will also be invited to discuss unresolved issues in CMR imaging and AI, exploring topics of mutual interest to the SCMR and MICCAI communities. Additionally, the sessions will officially announce the schedule for the CMRxRecon2025 challenge. The theme of CMRxRecon2025 is “Foundation Model for Cardiac MRI Reconstruction: Meeting the Real-world Challenge of Multi-center, Multi-vendor, and Multiple Diseases.”

Time and Location

The SCMR-MICCAI sessions will be held during the 27th Annual Scientific Sessions of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C. on January 31, 2025.

Schedule

Organization

Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR)

The SCMR is the recognized global representative and advocate for physicians, scientists, and technologists (membership has grown to over 3,000) who work in the field of CMR, committed to the further development of CMR through education, quality control, research, and training. We expect that the members of SCMR (cardiologists, radiologist, scientists, technologist) will greatly benefit from attending the joint workshop.

Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention Society (MICCAI Society)

The MICCAI Society was formed as a non-profit corporation on July 29, 2004. It is dedicated to the promotion, preservation and facilitation of research, education and practice in the field of medical image computing and computer assisted medical interventions including biomedical imaging and medical robotics. MICCAI annual meeting typically attracts over 1500 world-leading scientists, engineers, and clinicians from a wide range of disciplines associated with medical imaging and computer-assisted surgery.

Cardiac MRI Reconstruction community (CMRxRecon)

CMRxRecon is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing an open and collaborative platform for the field of CMR imaging. For three consecutive years, CMRxRecon has hosted the CMRx series challenges, covering topics such as CMR image quality control, rapid imaging, and multi-contrast reconstruction. Each year, CMRxRecon releases open datasets and offers specialized evaluations, attracting over 200 teams globally to participate.
